After School activities are a vital and integral part of life at Haileybury Almaty and take place after school for all year groups, usually at the following times.
KS1 : 2.15-3.00pm
KS2 : 3.15-4.00pm
The Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) vary according to the time of year, Year group, staff and pupil interest.
Primary CCAs cover academic, sports and recreational activities. Some of these CCAs will be by invitation only as students will have been identified as needing a little extra help, and some CCAs will be designed to provide more challenges for our students. Students who are representing the school in sporting events may need to attend extra CCAs that are specific to them and may fall outside of the normal CCAs times. This is so that our students have the best opportunity to be successful.
As well as active CCAs, the Secondary CCAs have academic sessions for a range of subjects throughout the subjects. These often culminate in revision sessions for the public examinations. Lower age groups have the opportunity to enhance their language skills or try out completely new languages as well as mentally challenging CCAs. There are opportunities to represent the school in debating in local and international competitions, as well as participating in the Model United Nations. More adventurous students can participate in the International Award http://www.intaward.org/ which encourages leadership and teambuilding skills.
To provide goals and challenges for all our students, the school actively participates in competitions through COASH http://coash.kz/ and COBIS http://www.cobis.org.uk/page.cfm?p=386 which include; football, basketball, debating, volleyball, swimming and chess. In addition, other event and competitions take place throughout the year.
Our CCAs enhance a holistic education and provide the opportunity in which students can step outside their comfort zone and take risks that challenge them academically and physically in CCAs that they choose, all within a safe environment. These are some of the key values that lie at the Heart of Haileybury Almaty.
The activities are run on a termly basis and once a pupil has elected to join an activity, participation is expected for the whole term. Places in activities will be allocated via an online process on a first come first served basis. Pupils who do not get a place in their preferred activity will be offered an alternative wherever possible.
The extra-curricular activities programme aims to broaden the development of pupils and their interests through the activities available. Some activities are provided for by outside agencies and charge for their services. In addition, some events may require overseas travel in order to participate in competitions. Parents of pupils who attend these clubs are agreeing to pay for these extra costs when they sign up to the activity.
These after school activities are enriched by other activities which occur during the school. These may include the Student Council and peer support schemes for older pupils to help with the pastoral care, reading and other basic skills of younger pupils. The older pupils are role models for the younger ones and have the opportunity to develop excellent leadership and coaching skills.
