At primary and secondary levels we follow the British national curriculum, but we adapt it to suit our context and the needs of the children in our care. We have been careful to develop its international dimension so that pupils are well prepared for the cosmopolitan world in which we live. Expectations are high and children cope well with the demands of our curriculum, even though their English may not be strong on entry to the school. Academic standards are exacting and children are expected to work hard.
We put particular emphasis on cultural and sporting activity outside the classroom. All our pupils have opportunities to play a musical instrument, sing and join with others in performance. There are drama productions and art competitions and exhibitions. Excellent sporting facilities encourage pupils to live healthy lives and develop their physical skills and agility.
At Haileybury Almaty children develop quickly in every way. They are taught to be responsible citizens, to respect others and to help one another. We encourage them to take initiative and express their views in a constructive manner.
Since August 2011 the school has offered an A-level programme in a broad range of subjects. A-levels are accepted by universities in the UK, the US, Australia and many other countries. The school also offers the English qualification known as IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) which is a standard entry qualification in English to universities in English speaking countries. It goes without saying that we advise on university entrance and support our pupils and parents through the application process.
