School structure and academic programmes

The school is divided into five schools:

• The Infant School for children aged 5 to 7 (British National Curriculum Years 1 and 2)

• The Junior School for children aged 7 to 11 (British National Curriculum Years 3 to 6)

• The Middle School for pupils aged 11 to 14 (British National Curriculum Years 7 to 9)

• The Upper School for pupils aged 14 to 16 (British National Curriculum Years 10 and 11)

• The Sixth Form for students aged 16 to 18 (British National Curriculum Years 12 and 13 or Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth)

Children are normally only admitted to the year group corresponding to their chronological age, although a number enter the year group below if this is in their interest.

The school follows the British National Curriculum, which is adapted for our local context.

At 16 years of age pupils take British GCSEs (General Certificate of Education) or IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Education).

In the Sixth Form students prepare for A-level examinations. At the beginning of the Upper Sixth, most students submit applications to British or American universities. The school assists in this process and provides appropriate, objective counselling.

All lessons are conducted in English with the exception of language lessons.

Local children study the Kazakh language throughout their time in the school.

All children are expected to work hard and strive for the highest standards. It is also a requirement that they take a full part in the extra-curricular programme. We encourage them to respect one another and their teachers and to consider how they may give something back to their communities.
