I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way
things that I had no words for."

All our lives are touched by the visual arts, and, as such, it is important that we understand, appreciate, and contribute to the wealth of our visual heritage. At Haileybury Almaty, we learn about and create art in a supportive community where taking risks and learning from mistakes is valued. Pupils are encouraged to harness and express their personal vision and creativity, build analytical and evaluative competence, and strengthen cultural and critical understanding.
Pupils produce their artwork drawing from multiple perspectives and skill sets: (a) keen observation, recording, and experimentation; (b) heightened awareness of spatial relationships, form, and geometry, and the ability to translate between two- and three-dimensional worlds; (c) from a cultural perspective with the artist as avid cultural consumer, and of art reflecting social conditions particular to a group of people, time and place; (d) through the language of felt experience, and communication of ideas and meaning through symbols; (e) and, finally, the physical demands of balance, coordination, strength, and stamina. The Art Department offers courses at the primary and secondary levels, IGCSE, and A-Level. The studio is bright, spacious and well-equipped with ceramic and printmaking facilities, which is open in the afternoons after school on Mondays and Wednesdays for pupils to attend artist workshops and/or continue producing their artwork. Annual events include a school-wide art competition in the spring and an exhibition in the summer term.
