ICT

Introduction

The increasing use of computers and ICT in all aspects of society makes confident and productive use of ICT an essential skill for life. ICT prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology. At Haileybury Almaty School we recognise the importance of ICT in the school curriculum.

We believe that it is very important for pupils to use computers to learn how to learn and work better, rather than just use them to become computer literate. We also consider ICT to be a powerful means of enriching and enhancing the delivery of all subjects across the curriculum.

The ICT Department is dedicated to providing an ICT education which enables every pupil to fulfil his/her best potential and prepares pupils for their future roles as competent ICT users.

Aims

  • To ensure that all pupils have an equal opportunity to follow a broad and balanced ICT curriculum.
  • To encourage pupils to develop an understanding of the wider applications and effects of ICT.
  • To encourage pupils to use ICT to solve problems
  • To encourage pupils to use ICT throughout all curriculum areas
  • To provide a working environment that is well resourced and stimulating
  • To help pupils develop critical awareness in order to evaluate the benefits of ICT and its impact on society

Objectives

  • To provide the necessary skills and understanding to enable pupils to apply ICT across the curriculum
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT to a range of situations.
  • To provide pupils with opportunities to analyse, design, implement and document ICT systems for use by others.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to consider the social, legal, ethical and moral issues arising from the use of ICT in a global society.
