The Year 6 visit to the Kasteev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazkhstan took place on Friday 9th of December. All thirty-one pupils, and six members of staff, enjoyed looking at a variety of different art forms, exhibited throughout the museum. This included a local artist’s entire lifetime work. Beautiful colours and images in oil were admired by all. Many of our children realised that a famous Kazakh children’s poet had been painted in portrait Abai Qunanbaiuli. Also, one of our pupils recognised his grandmother in one of the paintings!
The ‘Master Class’ gave the children the opportunity to see an artist’s studio, and produce some of their own work. We had fun translating some of the artist’s tools!
As pupils wandered around the gallery, they were able to select their favourite pieces, and draw a small part of them. Miss Hall, Haileybury Art Teacher, had the children laughing hysterically as they tried sketching with their eyes closed and with their opposite hands.
It was a successful trip, and the children behaved impeccably. We look forward to our next excursion, after the holidays.

"Brilliantly organised" "Enormously impressed with what [Haileybury Almaty] has already achieved."
