The main purposes of teaching Russian Language are:
- to give to pupils a valuable knowledge of Russian Language;
- to form their practical language skills and abilities;
- to ensure linguistic development of pupils;
- to help pupils to master verbal activities in this language;
- to form literacy writing and reading skills;
- to develop the pupils’ ability to speak fluently in Russian;
- to encourage pupils to enjoy and appreciate the variety of language.
Aims:
- develop an understanding of the internal structures of language, including the parts of speech, and simple and more complex sentence structures;
- develop an awareness of the importance of presentation spelling and punctuation, and an extensive vocabulary in conveying meaning efficiently and accurately;
- develop the pupils’ ability to talk for a range of purposes including: explanation, description and narration; exploration and hypothesis; consideration of ideas, literature and media; argument, debate, persuasion and instruction;
- develop the pupils’ ability to talk in a wide range of contexts, individually and in groups, including situations both formal and informal;
- develop the pupils’ ability to listen attentively, both in situations where they remain mostly silent and where they have opportunity to respond immediately;
- develop the pupils’ ability to read, understand and respond to a wide variety of literature without prejudice;
- encourage pupils to become independent, responsive, critical and enthusiastic readers;
- develop a reading habit from which the individual pupil derives enjoyment, stimulation and challenge;
- develop the pupils’ awareness of literature as a way of understanding themselves, others and other cultures.
