Russian: As a Foreign Language

Head of Department: Ms Olga Oreshkina

KS 1-2

The main target of this course is to develop Russian speaking and reading skills, as well as an interest for reading. The children learn to analyze words in terms of their sound and syllable composition, define the grammatical and lexical meanings of the word and learn about correct spelling of the Russian language. In class we study how block and cursive letters look, investigate the graphic elements which make up a letter, and practice typing words. We also begin working on the correct Russian spelling.
This skill set includes listening, speaking, developing the child's active, passive and potential vocabularies, grammar skills and speech cohesion. We emphasize word games, which allow the children to practice word formation and derivation and to form phrases and sentences grammatically. Each class and the course as a whole are based on the children's life and speech experiences.
