Secondary Staff

Thomas Wilde - Deputy Head, SLT, Teacher of English

Mr Wilde graduated from Oxford University with an honours degree in Modern History and English. He subsequently took his Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and, more recently, the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). Tom has nearly 20 years’ experience as a teacher, with ten years in school leadership. He particularly enjoys encouraging young people to be creative, as writers, musicians and artists. 

Stephen Buckland — Director of Studies, SLT

Mr. Buckland has 8 years teaching and leading experience in both the UK and overseas. With an honours degree in Combined Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University, Mr. Buckland went on to pursue a PGCE in Secondary Education (ICT) at Bath Spa University. As a committed educator Mr. Buckland strongly believes that the pursuit of excellence is vital to achieving anything of worth and enjoys working directly with pupils and staff, helping them to flourish and be successful.


                      

Rhys Thomas - Head of Secondary School, SLT

Mr. Thomas has 8 years teaching and leading experience in both the UK and overseas. With an honours degree in Cultural and Media Studies from The University of the West of England, Bristol, Mr. Thomas went on to pursue a PGCE in Secondary Education (ICT) at Bath Spa University. Mr. Thomas has worked as the Head of Upper School and Sixth Form before becoming the Head of Secondary at Haileybury Almaty and is focused on helping students achieve places at the best possible universities.

 


                     

Mary Eckersall - Head of Sixth Form, SLT

Mrs. Eckersall has significant experience as a leader both international and in the Uk. She trained at I.M.Marsh C. P.E., part of the University of Liverpool. A career in International Hockey and travelling the world playing matches gave Mary a taste for working abroad and in 2002 she began working in international education, fulfilling various roles ranging from P.E. teacher to Head of Careers. Mary loves working with 6th form pupils and helping them to achieve their goals. 

 

 

 


    

Lucy Pitman - Head of KS4, Secondary, Teacher of English

Miss Pittman graduated from University College London with a degree in Literature; she then went on to do her postgraduate in Education at Goldsmith’s College, University of London. A teaching career that now spans 17 years, she has gone from teaching English as a Foreign Language to teaching English Literature and Language in the UK and abroad. As well as embracing the academic side of education, Miss Pittman has also worked in a pastoral capacity with secondary school students as a Head of Year or Head of Key Stage 4 for more than six years.  

 


                      

Stephen Butters — Head of Key Stage 3, Teacher of PE

 

Mr Butters has eight years teaching experience in the UK and overseas. Before gaining qualified teacher status (QTS), he attained a degree from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Mr Butters believes building a positive relationship with students is the key to success and helps facilitate outstanding teaching and learning.
